Training for Informal CaregiversTaining for informal caregivers is being promoted under the IADem Plan – Action Research on Dementias, which has the Cooperation and Partnership Agreement between the Local Health Unit of Alto Minho, EPE – Community Care Unit (UCC) of Ponte da Barca, the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Ponte da Barca and the University of Minho, represented by the Research Center in Psychology (CIPsi), specifically the GISEF (Research Group in Health & Family).
Within the scope of the Action Research Plan on Dementia in the municipality of Ponte da Barca - IADem Plan, psychoeducational activities will be published throughout the months of February and March 2022 aimed at (in)formal caregivers and the individuals they care for to be carried at home, which may be consulted HERE. |

During the months of July and August 2021, on Tuesdays starting on the 13th of July, five training webinars will be held for informal caregivers of people with dementia. This training aims to train informal caregivers to care for people with dementia, in the time of Covid-19, in order to promote the functionality of the patient and the promotion of the quality of life of the patient and caregiver.

WORKSHOP "HELP ME TO BE SAFE!!" [“AJUDA-ME A ESTAR SEGURO!!”]
On February 15, 2020, the workshop “Help me to be safe!!” took place. This workshop follows in line with the continuity of the promotion and awareness of the Barca community, essentially in the training of informal caregivers. Taking care of a family member is a daily challenge, experienced in a mixture of emotions, being necessary to take care of yourself to take care of the other, through the increase of knowledge and strategies to know how to act.
2019
COLÉGIO TERESIANO BRAGA ACTIVITY - "CARE FOR THE OTHER IS TAKE CARE OF US!"
This initiative took place at Colégio Teresiano de Braga, and was intended to help students reflect and lead their lives along paths of solidarity, participatory and responsible citizenship and the common good. The IADem Plan Team created a short film entitled “Caring for the Other, I Take Care of Me” with positive and illuminating messages of Intergenerational wisdom.
WORKSHOP TO MARK THE "INFORMAL CAREGIVING DAY"
The session addressed to informal caregivers of people with dementia in the municipality of Ponte da Barca, took place on 20 November and allowed for the identification and implementation, in daily life, of communication strategies with the person with dementia. The awareness of the characteristics and stages of dementia and the training of caregivers has been a constant concern in order to improve the quality of life of the informal caregiver and the person being cared for.

INTERNATIONAL FAMILY DAY - "TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF TO TAKE CARE OF THE OTHER" [“CUIDAR DE SI PARA PARA CUIDAR DO OUTRO”]
The initiative “Take Care of Yourself to Take Care of the Other” [“Cuidar de Si para Cuidar do Outro”], which took place on May 15, intended to combine the commemoration of the International Family Day with an action to raise awareness in the community about the importance that every informal caregiver needs to take care of themselves to be able to take care of the Other better! Thus, this action highlighted the importance of reducing risk factors associated with the burden and social isolation of the caregiver and family relationship, for a better adaptation to dementia.
2017
"GIVE A VOICE TO THE CAREGIVER!!" ["DAR VOZ AO CUIDADOR!!”]
As part of the commemorations of World Health Day – April 7, the workshop “Give a voice to the caregiver” [“Dar voz ao cuidador”] was held. The sessions took place on April 4th, 5th, 7th and 10th and on November 21st. This type of initiative aims to promote the quality of life of the caregiver and, simultaneously, of the person with dementia, with the development of strategies that alleviate situations of stress and emotional overload. |

WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY - "LIVE MEMORIES" ACTIVITY [ATIVIDADE "AVIVAR MEMÓRIAS”]
As part of the World Mental Health Day Celebration, the “Live Memories” ["Avivar Memórias] activity was held on October 12th for informal caregivers of people with Dementia. This initiative aimed at stimulating memory, producing reminiscences and relaxation using a repertoire of significant music and sounds; improve concentration and motor coordination through rhythmic sequences; to promote temporal and spatial orientation, socialization and interaction, also contributing to the cultural enrichment of the elderly.
